About Us

Women’s Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialists is a unique medical practice that was established in 1998 and is the pioneer of group private practice in Melbourne. The five specialist female Obstetricians and Gynaecologists;  Dr Jenny Dowd, Dr Khairul Mohamed-Noor, Dr Kym Jansen, Dr Renee Wong and Dr Philippa Costley, work cohesively as a team sharing their combined expertise to provide specialist care for all their patients 24 hours a day. Founding member, Dr Angelie Lee, retired from the practice in 2016.

Pregnant women attending the group will book with their principal obstetrician who will be the main contact and conduct most of the antenatal visits. We plan for each woman to meet with all other doctors during the pregnancy so that whatever time of the day or night a familiar face will greet her in labour ward. The practice has an after-hours and weekend roster system, so that during these times the management of labour or emergencies will be the responsibility of the doctor on call. One doctor is the designated specialist on call for 24 hours at a time,  but in practice we look after our own patients during the day if possible, and any elective deliveries and procedures are planned to suite both doctor and patient.  Gynaecology patients will remain under the care of their principle gynaecologist, except for after hours’ emergencies whereby the specialist on call will care for the patient.  All our obstetric patients are delivered exclusively at Frances Perry House, which is a private hospital co-located above the Royal Women's Hospital.

Midwives

Elizabeth and Carrie are the midwives at the Women’s Obstetric and Gynaecology Specialists (WOGS).

They are experienced midwives who have broad knowledge in pregnancy, birth, postnatal care, and breastfeeding and will be a valuable resource for you during your care at WOGS. You may wish to contact Elizabeth or Carrie during your early pregnancy, in the weeks leading up to your first appointment, or at any time during your pregnancy. They are available Monday to Friday during practice hours. Childbirth Education – Elizabeth & Carrie can provide informal, small group childbirth education (labour & birth) classes, aimed at first time parents-to-be.

These are held fortnightly in the familiar rooms at WOGS – you can call or see them at one of your appointments to discuss, or email about the sessions at ec.educationforchildbirth@gmail.com. If you are scheduled for an appointment and your Obstetrician is called away for a birth, or emergency situation, they will be able to assist with your antenatal consultation. Elizabeth and Carrie work regularly at Frances Perry House in both the postnatal ward and birth suites, so it is also possible they will be part of the team involved in your hospital care.

Administrative Staff

Supporting the Practice are our dedicated and friendly staff Silvia, Robyn, Lelia, Stacey and Sasha.  They form an important part of the team to provide efficient patient care and to assist you throughout your pregnancy, appointments and/or procedures.
